Minneapolis Attractions
Minneapolis has long been known as one of the most important business centers in the Mid-West of the United States, and aside from Chicago is probably the largest farming center in the country, a place where food from all over the nation is processed and dispatched. It is also a major manufacturing center with a number of large international companies based in the city. This however does not mean that there is nothing for tourists to enjoy in the city, and thanks to the redevelopment of the center of Minneapolis over the last ten years or so, it has become a place that offers plenty of things to see and do, including museums, shopping centers, and a large number of outdoor spaces to sit back and relax in during the day.
One of the best known attractions in Minneapolis is the famous sculpture gardens in the Municipal Park in the center of the city. Here you can see a number of large statues by some of the best known sculptors and artists in the world including Jeff Koons and Henry Moore amongst others. The dominant piece of art in the park is a ten foot high cherry mounted on a forty foot long spoon, which serves as a bridge across an ornamental pond. It is called Spoon Bridge and Cherry, and has become famous as a symbol of the city.
The MinneHaHa comedy club is one of the best known comedy venues in the United States, and hosts regular themed evenings throughout the year, when top names from the world of entertainment including Eddie Murphy have performed there. If is very busy during the week, and provides guests with the opportunity to let their hair down and enjoy themselves.
The city boasts a lively arts scene, and this has translated into a general interest in fine art and high culture, and this has led to a number of galleries opening in the city. One of the best known art galleries in Minneapolis is the Hart Collection. With a large selection of works by some of the United States’ top artists including Andy Warhol; it is a popular place to spend a few hours in between exploring the shopping malls and bars that dominate the city center.
